The 4.2-liter V8 is generally reliable, except on the B6 and B7 S4 2008 Audi S5 4.2-liter V8 engine | Audi. Another seemingly-odd choice for a reliable used Audi engine is the 4.2-liter V8. On the one hand, Ward’s Auto and Eurosport Tuning hold high opinions of it. But on the other hand, the trouble-prone B7- and B6-gen S4s used it.

First – the sound. I wished I had gotten sound clips, but the car just sounds incredible. When you have the already beautiful sounding 4.2L V8 and then pair that up with JHM Mid-Length (V2) headers, the updated JHM/Fast Intentions 2.75″ cat-back exhaust, and a JHM Supercharger kit, you get a symphony of all around badassery.
So it's a 4.2 V8 with an AMD remap running over 350BHP, and look what it can do: Done a few thousand miles now and regularly manage 30-34mpg on a run, amazed at the fuel consumption. Significantly better than my old E39 M5, M3, Scooby etc - in fact it's as good as my Focus ST2!!! To think

Firstly, the car is fast. 0-62mph is 4.5 seconds so it really does go. However, the exhaust pops a little but the note is very artificial and in a V6, something you would expect. The engine is fairly efficient and its a comfortable drive. Reliable as expected seeing as it is an Audi and space wise you cannot complain!
